Strangers' Hall Deep Clean

Each year Strangers’ Hall Museum undergoes a ‘deep clean’ for us to monitor, conserve and care for this historic house and the items held in our collection within it.

Strangers’ Hall is one of Norwich’s most historic buildings, this magnificent Tudor house has been home to many of the city’s leading citizens since the 14th Century. It is important to clean, conserve and monitor this wonderful site and our collections to the highest standards and our annual deep clean enables to do this.

The deep clean will take place throughout Janurary 2025 and you can do as much or as little as you are able.  We complete a Rota, so will ask for your availability, but you may not be able to complete every day you request.

What's involved?

Here is a brief overview of the types of work you will be asked to help with:

  • Object cleaning
  • Assessment of objects for pest infestation.
  • Object handling and movement

You do not have to have prior experience as training will be provided and you will be paired with team members

  • You will be required to wear suitable footwear (safety boots if you have them- or sturdy/practical footwear if you don’t)

Suitable clothing will be required (clothes you don’t mind getting dirty). Although Tyvek suits will be available to use if you wish to.

Why get involved?

If you are looking for some experience within working in a historic house environment, conservation experience, or just want to help us protect this wonderful museum, then you can join us for as little or as many days as you are able.
