Come and help us to grow trees! We have set up a new Community Tree Nursery at Gressenhall Farm and Workhouse and are looking for volunteers to help us with all stages of growing trees from collecting seeds to the preparing the grown trees.
Not only will we be growing trees the nursery aims to inspire others to get growing with activities for school and community groups and information for visitors. The tree nursery is part of a new environmental hub for Norfolk at Gressenhall Farm and Workhouse.
We will be holding regular volunteering sessions every Thursday at the tree nursery from 10am to midday. We will also be running workshops and events outside of these times and there may be scope to volunteer at other times as well.
What's involved?
The nursery is at the farm site at Gressenhall museum. Most activities will be at the nursery. Some activities such as seed collection and planting will take place at other sites.
Tasks will depend on the season but may include:
- Seed collection and processing
- Watering and weeding
- Sowing seeds and transplanting seedlings
- Grading trees and preparing orders
- Building raised beds
- Chatting to visitors about growing trees
- Helping with sessions with school or community groups
- Assisting with training sessions
The nursery is located at the farm at Gressenhall. Volunteers will need to walk down to the farm (approximately 500m from the car park/man entrance). If you have particular accessibility needs please contact us as we may be able to make arrangements.
You must be 18 or over or accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Tools, equipment and PPE will be provided. Training will be during tasks though we are hoping to run a series of workshops delivered by experts.
