Each July we have availability for a limited number of placements to join us for a week-long work experience for Year 10 school students, which includes talks, tours and activities covering our three Norwich museums and many different departments across the service, including collections management, curatorial, display, learning, communications and front of house.
Because of the high volume of requests we receive, we have an application process for these placements, which is now open.
Accepting this challenge will confirm your interest in applying for this, but you will need to complete the application form and should only click completed once offered a place.
Please note we can only accommodate placements on either 29th June- 3rd July, or 6th-10th July 2026, if your work experience is a different week, I’m afraid we cannot accommodate you.
What's involved?
You will be placed with a group of other students and will spend the week carrying out a range of tasks and meeting staff from across the service, sometimes in a group and sometimes independently. Be prepared to take part, work as a team and be open to learning about the many different areas involved in running and working in a museum.
From behind the scenes to working front of house, we hope you will get to experience every avenue available to you, if considering a career in museums or heritage. We hope to also open your eyes to roles you might not have considered within a heritage environment.
Activities will be based at Norwich Castle, Shirehall Study Centre, Museum of Norwich and Strangers' Hall.
